About James

Born and raised in Wolseley, Saskatchewan, Jim Garden brings more than four decades of legal experience and a deep commitment to rural communities across the province. After earning his LL.B. from the University of Saskatchewan in 1978, Jim was called to the Bar in 1979 and has since built a diverse and respected practice in civil litigation, dispute resolution, insurance law, and estate matters. He maintains active branch offices in both Wolseley and Indian Head.

Jim is widely recognized for his work in the field of mental health law. Since 1984, he has served as Chair of the Mental Health Review Panel for the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and he has lectured extensively to physicians, lawyers, and university audiences on topics related to mental illness, incapacity, and legal rights under The Mental Health Services Act.

He also serves as a Canada Labour Code Adjudicator and Referee and is a recognized labour arbitrator under The Saskatchewan Employment Act.

A third-generation member of Saskatchewan’s insurance industry, Jim continues his family’s legacy through a robust insurance law practice. He is a member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan, the Canadian and Regina Bar Associations, and the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association.

Outside the legal realm, Jim is a dedicated community volunteer and avid choral singer. He and his wife, Joan, are active members of the Regina Philharmonic Chorus and Knox-Metropolitan United Church choir.
